Don’t Beg: Simply Show Up & Be Present

This morning, during my prayer time, God revealed to me how easy it is for people to end up in a position of begging due to lack, fear, and uncertainty. But we don’t have to walk that path. Instead, just show up and be fully present. Allow God to speak on your behalf and let your light shine.

I’ve been there.

There were times when I struggled to make ends meet. I would find myself at the negotiation table, pitching for a contract opportunity, and slipping into a position of begging for them to hire me based on my skills. I was so eager to secure work that I ended up not presenting my best self.

Desperation can lead you to that point.

I know I’m not alone in this experience.

I know my craft — volunteer leadership expert, community builder, inspirational coach, author of fifteen published books, and author coach to over five hundred self-publishing authors. Yet, I would still find myself sitting at the table, hungry for work, with my accomplishments overshadowed by my eagerness to pay my bills.

But I’ve moved beyond that position, which took a lot of self-evaluation, prayer, and determination to let my work speak for itself.

Over the past few years, I have coached many women, especially, to push through that space of shrinking back or simply begging for work.

During my devotions, God guided me to my latest book, INSPIRE: A Call to Action, where I found these words written on page 135, Devotion 49:

“Let’s commit to living intentionally. Intentionality is a transformative mindset that can shape your life and the lives of those around you. When you approach each day with intention, you’re purposefully harmonizing your actions, thoughts, and words with your goals and values.” The passage continues, “Choose to establish clear intentions for your actions and interactions. This means being present and wholeheartedly engaged in each moment, exerting your best effort, and remaining steadfast in your values. It means thoughtfully choosing your words, recognizing their potential to uplift and inspire others.”

Let’s break this down further:

  1. Live Intentionally: Approach each day with purpose and align your actions, thoughts, and words with your goals and values.
  2. Be Present: Fully engage in each moment, giving your best effort to whatever you are doing.
  3. Stay True to Your Values: Remain steadfast in what you believe, letting those principles guide your decisions and actions.
  4. Choose Your Words Carefully: Recognize the power of your words to uplift and inspire those around you.
  5. Exude Confidence in Your Expertise: Allow your work and accomplishments to speak for themselves, without the need to beg or seek validation.

When God is in it, even those who do not believe will recognize your expertise and open doors of opportunity. When you realize your full potential, you won’t find yourself in a position of begging. Be confident in your accomplishments and success. Give yourself permission to succeed and allow God’s light to shine in and through you. Resist the urge to block the light and to minimize your success.

See yourself, then allow others to see you.
