Navigating the Political Spectrum: A Call for Informed Voting in 2024

Following the recent elections in the United States and reflecting on what I perceive as the extremes within both ends of the political spectrum, I’ve resolved to divulge my political approach as we gear up for the 2024 primaries and general elections. If we’re candid, the majority of us find ourselves in the center. While we might lean towards the far right or far left on certain issues, we also fluctuate along the scale across the twelve appropriation bills, for instance.

In the visual representation, you’ll encounter a more conservative voting agenda on one side and a portrayal of what resonates with Democrats on the other. The truth is, these positions can often be interchangeable. Take Education, for example; one might adopt a more moderate stance but could lean conservative based on their socio-economic status. Similarly, on human rights, those on the left may align it with women’s rights, leaning towards the progressive or liberal end.

Contemplating financial services, thoughts may tend towards the right due to conservative financial practices. Today, I endorse the strategy of thoroughly vetting all candidates seeking office or reelection. Considering for example the appropriation bills, which includes:

  1. Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Associated Agencies
  2. Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies
  3. Defense
  4. Energy and Water Development
  5. Financial Services and General Government
  6. Homeland Security
  7. Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies
  8. Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies
  9. Legislative Branch
  10. Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies
  11. State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs
  12. Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies

one can shift up or down the scale. So, why not vote accordingly? Shouldn’t we, the people, focus on voting down the ballot or align our votes with the current needs of a community, household, the economy, etc.?

As of this writing, we stand eight days away from a potential government shutdown. Instead of succumbing to soundbites, let’s scrutinize the voting records of our legislators. How do they vote in the chamber? Do they align with your expectations as a constituent, vote present, abstain, or contradict the platform they campaigned on? This is the criterion for our future votes. Let’s not be complacent; let’s diligently research before casting our ballots.

Starting January 2024, I will share articles on this platform to promote voter registration, participation, and the significance of thorough research. Ensure you subscribe to my electronic newsletter at www.GailDudley.com. A subscription box will appear, and you can sign up for free.

Catch the replay of the November 9, 2023 News in Motion broadcast for my analysis of the four appropriation bills recently approved by the House. However, there’s speculation that the Senate might not give their endorsement. Give it a listen and activate your critical thinking skills as an informed voter. Listen here: YouTube
