TODAY’S INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE REVOLVES around preparedness, and it may sound somewhat familiar, especially for those who’ve grown up in church. I vividly recall the Sunday school lessons about being prepared. One thing drilled into my head was how many books there are in the Bible. Yes, there are 66 books, and I can still sing that song in my head. So I pondered what it means to prepare, given the current circumstances, like the makeshift hospitals popping up. I realized that preparation extends beyond gathering supplies.

There are 66 books in the Bible, and when you break it down, there are 27 new and 39 old books, making up the grand total. This made me reflect on how we prepare for the challenging times we face today. The pandemic’s severity is evident, and we must prepare ourselves. But how do we prepare?

God showed me that true preparation means embracing selflessness. It means thinking about our neighbors, just as we love ourselves.

Preparation extends to our community. Do I have enough supplies not only for myself but also for those who might need them? Do I have enough food to share if someone comes knocking? Will I offer assistance without hesitation? The readiness we need isn’t just for self-preservation; it’s about considering others in our community.

As I gather supplies, I’m also preparing to be of service to others. I’m contemplating the needs of the broader community. Can I help my neighbor with a mask? Am I prepared to offer a can of food to someone in need? We must shift our focus away from ourselves and consider how we can serve our community.

A Call to Action

We need to break free from selfishness and instead look out for our neighbors. To prepare is to serve. It’s time to think beyond ourselves and consider our community. Let’s get ready, not just for our own sake, but for the betterment of all.
