United Prayer for a Hopeful Future
Devotion 64, page 172
TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL HOLDS A special place in my heart. It’s a message about the profound power of prayer, echoing the scriptural wisdom that “the prayers of the righteous avail much.” Now, more than ever, it’s crucial that we unite in prayer, regardless of the election’s outcome. The truth is, we’re stepping into the unknown after this election. We can’t predict people’s reactions or anticipate the challenges that may lie ahead. That’s precisely why I want to stress the importance of shrouding our nation, its leaders, and ourselves in prayer.
It’s time to saturate the world with prayer. Let’s invest time praying for every candidate, irrespective of our differences. Let our prayers extend to all elected officials, national guards, local police, government employees at all levels, teachers, social workers, and every individual who contributes to the fabric of our society. But our efforts should not stop there — let’s also enfold our individual households in prayer.
Recall, “the prayers of the righteous avail much.” We are at a pivotal moment, and our prayers possess the potential to create a profound impact. Just as people have been urging us to vote because our lives depend on it, I want to emphasize that our prayers are equally vital. Our lives depend on them too.
Take a moment to look around. What do you see? What can you discern? Take these observations and commit them to prayer. In a world where people are grappling with overwhelming challenges, prayer is essential. Hunger persists, families are disintegrating, democracy faces threats, and misinformation and disinformation are rampant on social media. Our prayers can serve as a guiding light in these troubled times.
Call to Action
Now more than ever, we must come together in prayer. Set aside time each week to gather with three to five others and lift up prayers for unity — in our communities, in life’s challenges, in government, schools, seniors, families, marriages, and finances, or wherever your heart leads. Remember, the prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective. Let’s stand in faith together.
